Starting Point: Plymouth

Begin your journey at the historic Barbican in Plymouth, a vibrant area brimming with cobbled streets, quirky shops, and the famous Mayflower Steps. After exploring this area (grabbing a coffee from one of the local cafés is highly recommended), find the South West Coast Path signpost near the Mayflower Steps and head south.

Mount Batten Peninsula (2 miles from Plymouth)

After leaving the city behind, you'll soon reach the Mount Batten Peninsula. The path here offers stunning views over Plymouth Sound and the city's waterfront. Be sure to visit the Mount Batten Tower, a 17th-century artillery fort, which stands sentinel over the harbour.

Facilities: Public toilets and a café are available at Mount Batten.

Jenny Cliff (4 miles from Plymouth)

Leaving Mount Batten, the path climbs to the top of Jenny Cliff, a popular local spot that offers panoramic views over Plymouth Sound. It's a perfect place for a rest and a picnic.

Facilities: There's a café at Jenny Cliff and public toilets nearby.

Bovisand Beach (6 miles from Plymouth)

The path meanders through woodland before descending to Bovisand Beach, a lovely sandy bay surrounded by cliffs. If the tide is out, it's a great spot for a paddle.

Heybrook Bay (8 miles from Plymouth)

From Bovisand, the path continues to Heybrook Bay, a peaceful hamlet with a beautiful rocky beach. The coastal views here are simply breathtaking, especially at sunset.

Facilities: There's a pub at Heybrook Bay, but no other facilities are available.

Wembury (10 miles from Plymouth)

The final stretch of the path brings you to Wembury, a small village renowned for its marine conservation area and stunning beach. It's a perfect spot to take a break and soak in the beauty of the natural surroundings. If you're lucky, you might even spot some marine wildlife.

Facilities: Wembury has a café, public toilets, and a National Trust car park.
