Par to Polperro
Our journey today takes us on a spectacular stretch of the South West Coast Path: Par to Polperro. This scenic trail packs in sweeping views, historical landmarks, and captivating wildlife, making for a truly memorable journey. Starting from the sandy beaches of Par, the path winds its way through idyllic coves, traditional Cornish fishing villages, and dramatic cliff tops, finally culminating in the enchanting village of Polperro.

Starting Point: Par
The journey begins at Par Beach, a large sandy bay that's a favourite amongst locals. After perhaps enjoying a quick paddle in the sea, you'll follow the path south towards the coastal headland. The trail will lead you through a mix of terrains, with some steep ascents and descents along the way, so be prepared to work those leg muscles!
Polkerris (1.5 miles from Par)
Your first stop is the charming hamlet of Polkerris, home to a sheltered harbour beach and excellent facilities. There is also a pub and a restaurant here where you can fuel up for the journey ahead.

Gribbin Head (3.5 miles from Par)
After leaving Polkerris, the path climbs up to Gribbin Daymark, an unmissable red and white striped tower that has guided mariners since 1832. From here, enjoy panoramic views of St Austell Bay, the Fowey Estuary, and the English Channel.
Facilities: None at Gribbin Head – remember to bring your own supplies.
Fowey (5 miles from Par)
The trail then descends into the bustling harbour town of Fowey. Here, you can explore the narrow streets, visit the museum or relax in one of the many pubs or cafes.

Polruan (7.5 miles from Par)
Leaving Fowey, you'll take a short ferry ride across the river to Polruan. From here, the path ascends steeply, rewarding you with magnificent views across the Fowey Estuary and out to sea.

Final Stretch: Pencarrow Head and Arrival in Polperro (10.5 miles)
The final stretch of the walk takes you over the dramatic cliffs of Pencarrow Head and down into the picturesque fishing village of Polperro. Here, narrow winding streets are lined with quaint cottages, and the small harbour is a perfect place to relax and celebrate the end of your walk.
Facilities: Polperro has plenty of amenities, including cafes, pubs, public toilets, and shops.

Terrain: This section includes both woodland paths and exposed cliff-top trails, with several steep ascents and descents. Good walking boots are recommended.
Facilities: Limited between Polkerris and Fowey, so carry water, snacks, and any essentials you may need.
Weather: Coastal weather can change quickly – bring layers and a waterproof jacket.
