Crackington Haven to Boscastle

This section of the South West Coast Path is a spectacular journey that traverses rocky cliffs, lush valleys, and quintessential Cornish villages. Starting in the quaint coastal hamlet of Crackington Haven, the path takes you along some of the most dramatic cliff-top scenery in Cornwall, before descending into the bustling harbour village of Boscastle.

Starting Point: Crackington Haven

Your journey begins in the picturesque hamlet of Crackington Haven, nestled in a secluded and scenic bay. The local pub and cafes offer an opportunity for a hearty breakfast or a quick caffeine fix before you hit the trail. The South West Coast Path starts just above the beach, taking you immediately onto the cliff-tops, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the Atlantic.

Note: Public toilets are available near the beach in Crackington Haven.

High Cliff (2 miles from Crackington Haven)

The path climbs steadily from Crackington Haven, heading south towards High Cliff. This is the highest cliff in Cornwall, and the views are simply breathtaking. From here, you can see all the way down the coast to Boscastle and beyond. Make sure to have your camera ready!

Facilities: None at High Cliff – carry your own supplies.

St Gennys Church (3 miles from Crackington Haven)

Continuing along the path, you’ll soon reach the tiny hamlet of St Gennys and its charming church, perched high on the cliff-top. It’s a tranquil spot to catch your breath and perhaps enjoy a picnic lunch, with stunning views out to sea.

Facilities: None in St Gennys – be sure to bring your own lunch and water.

Pentargon Waterfall (5 miles from Crackington Haven)

The trail dips into a lush valley before climbing again towards the spectacular Pentargon Waterfall. This 120-foot cascade is a hidden treasure, plunging into a secluded cove below. It's a sight you won't want to miss.

Facilities: None directly on the path – ensure you have what you need.

Final Stretch: Boscastle (6.5 miles)

The final stretch of your journey takes you along the cliff-tops and down into the historic village of Boscastle. This bustling harbour town is a wonderful place to end your walk, with plenty of cafes, pubs, and shops to explore. Don’t miss the chance to visit the fascinating Museum of Witchcraft and Magic, or simply enjoy a well-deserved cream tea by the harbour.

Terrain: This section is challenging, with steep ascents and descents along the cliff-top paths. Good walking boots are essential.
